Chicago stuff

So, My Sharona by the Knack came up recently on my Ipod. Which, of course, made me think of Ayatolla by Steve Dahl. It turns out that he does the afternoon talk for a Chicago radio station. The weird thing is that Gary Meier does the morning talk. Have they made up? I guess they could still hate each other and work the same radio station. You can download Podcasts of both of them at the Itunes store. I suppose Queebs knows all about this. Anyway, I was looking for a copy of Ayatolla-could not find one; as well as a copy of Hey Hey Holy Mackerel. Any help?

I'm afraid I'm no help. So why I'm I even commenting? I don't know. Just so you know I'm reading, I guess.

Gary was in a big contract dispute with his old partner Roe Conn on WLS. They ended up dumping him and just leaving Roe solo. Gary was off the air for a couple of years. Last summer Steve was doing a broadcast from Oak Street Beach and Gary stopped by and they did an afternoon together and sort of semi made up. Later in the year WCKG signed Gary to do mid-days. He pretty much sucks on his own though. He needs to be a second guy, not the leader. Steve is on in the afternoon with Buzz Kilman (Newsman/Bluesman) from the Johnny B days. Steve's website is Dahl.com.

I have a Ayatolla, but it is on cassette. (It could be worse, it could be 8-track). You might check Dahl.com for it. Somewhere I have a record (that was a small black disc played on something called a turntable in the dark ages) of Hey Hey Holy Mackeral packed away. Don't know where you might be able to find it on-line. I know it is out there though. I went to the Cubs game last Sunday, they play a new song called Go Cubs Go now as their theme song. If the Cubs make it to the playoffs my sister is going to have a shot at tickets because she has season ticket seats now. I got to go to a White Sox playoff game in 05, maybe I'll get to the Cubs in 07. My goal in life is to see a championship for all the teams before I die. I am not holding out hopes for the Blackhawks.

Hey gents,
As Bode said you can get the CD "20 Years in the Can" at Dahl.com which has Ayatolla on it plus a lot of the early radio stuff with Gary Meier. I don't get to listen to Gary much but his show has it's funny moments. He definately has a much different style tham Steve. One interesteing note is that one of Steve Dahl's three sons has a radio show that is on in the evening on the the same station as Steve. I think Steve has a dream of him retiring and having his son take over for him. He is actually sort of funny but he has definately taken a short cut to the big time thanks to his dad.

P.S. OK Bode, now that the Sox couldn't beat the worst Yorkville Pony League team we have all you Sox fans coming to the Cubs games!!! You band wagon jumpers!!!

Hey, thanks for info, guys-especially Lou. I think I will still try to find the songs for free. I don't like to pay full price-last night I found a used copy of John Lee Hooker's boxed set. Sweet!
