The Boring Life of Bodie

Hey All,

Good idea by Ken to create this forum to keep in touch! This is the third time I have tried to post and each time it has disappeared so hopefully this is the charm.

Nothing much has changed with us since the E-mails last fall. I am settling in with Lowe's and I like it there. Don't have a permanent home store or position yet, but I scored high on their tests so hopefully that will help. Robin is still doing the workout thing part time for Shape Express, a women's only club. We are keeping are fingers crossed though because five other clubs in the area have closed in the last few months. Supposedly the person that might be buying her club wants to keep it open under a new name so helpfully she is safe because she really likes getting paid to workout. I also like it every other Friday.

The kids are keeping us busy like just like yours do. Jenna is in 4th grade, Eric in 7th and Bryan is a junior and starting to think about the college thing. I am thinking about which bank to rob to pay for it so if I don't write for a few years you will know I stunk at that profession. They are into all sorts of scouts and sports so were are always running. Amy bought Bryan an old car so that helps with the driving at least. Keith, I just got back from a cabin campout and it was just the same as when we were in scouts-lots of noise and little sleep.

Talk to you all later, Lou I'll take one with kethcup and mustard.

Hey Bode - Man, where has all of the time gone? Was it really that long ago we were out misbehaving and drinking warm PBR? It doesn't seem like it, but I guess it has been.

Have you checked out my Cubs blog yet? You can find it at www.cubscafe.blogspot.com. I spend way too much time working on it. If you get a chance, take a look and leave your thoughts. My blog was recently mentioned as one of the better Cubs blogs on The Cub Reporter, the granddaddy of all Cubs blogs. That was exciting.

Say hello to Robin for me.

Lowe's !!!! Why you trader !!! :)
just kidding.. you push from one end Ace will push from the other and we will run Home Depot out of business.. On a serious note, I did not realize you had left Target what is the story with that??
ah the memories of camping out in those wonderful cabins with Glen Wrath and the McCrimmon brothers cooking rabbit on a pot belly stove. Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it... not because it is sad but because it was disgusting. You will have to let me know what nights are good for you and the family, I have been promising Bob that I would organize a pizza outing for the last year. Lou, feel free to stop down for some good old Chicago style pizza... Ken, you are welcome to join as well. Say hello to the family

Queebs -- Let us know a date and we'll be there. That place you got the pizza from last time was great. I was disappointed you didn't get Connie's until I tasted the pizza from the local place. Good stuff!

I still have not recovered from 1969 when the Cubs broke my young naive heart with their collapse. I have been more of a Sox over the years, even got to go the playoffs a couple years back. Amy has a pair of season Cubs tickets so I do go a few games each season though. (If anyone wants some she usually sells off some games, let me know and I can get the list of ones available). I'll check out the blog, but I can't support the Cubs (unless they start winning and I have to jump on the bandwagon so we can say we saw the Cubs, Bears, Bulls and Sox be world champs). I am resigned to the fact that the Hawks will never win a championship in our lifetime.

Pizza sounds good Keith. Our schedule varies on nights, the only night usually out is Monday. We could even try a Sunday afternoon-early evening.

Ok.. now I am toally crushed. First I find out Paul works for Lowe's and then I have to find out that he is a White Sox Fan !!! But I guess I am not suprised, somehow my brother Steve has drifted toward the South side of town the last few years as well. Like most Cubs fans I am really neutral about the Sox. When the Sox won 2 years ago it was sort of like when the Chicago Wolves won whatever the heck trophy they win in that other hockey league, it was sort of amusing but that was about it. Let it be known that when the Cubs do finally come around and win the world series we are not going to let any of you ship jumpers back on our band wagon!!! ( don't worry, the world will come to an end at about the same time anyway )

P.S. I still want to know why Ken knows so much about prison??

Bodie -- The White Sox? For the love of God, man. What are you thinking? When the Cubs beat the Red Sox in the World Series this year, Keith is going to guard one side of the bandwagon and I'm going to guard the other. No Johnny-come-latelys will be allow.

Now in the interest of full disclosure, I did become a Cardinals fan for a while. I couldn't help myself. I was seduced. They were exciting. They had those uniforms with the birds sitting on a bat. And most of all, they were winners. Being a lifelong Cubs fan, this was all new to me.

But when I found my religion again, it wasn't because the Cubs were winning. It was because I searched my soul and realized that no matter how hard I fought against it, I would always be a Cubs fan. In the immortal words of Popeye, "I am what I am."

I am also surprised that ANYONE who was a CUBS fan became a sox fan. Having lived in a sox neighborhood-Beverly-many Cubs fans are not indifferent to the sox-they don't understand why sox fans loyalties waver. How often did they fill the park in the years before they won? I saw the sox play several times when I was there, mostly to an empty stadium. I understand also the senselessness??? of Wrigley Field being packed for every game, despite losing. There is nothing greater to me than walking into Wrigley and seeing the field-I get goose bumps every time. The kids and I were on the field-All star weekend, I guess 97. . . .98, I don't know-it was awesome. I think I enjoyed more that the kids, although I think I turned Nick into a hugh Cubs fan-which I kinda feel bad about.

Passing on your Cubs-love to your children is nothing to feel bad about, Ken. It's kind of like if you were a dwarf and then you had kids that were dwarfs. You wouldn't feel bad about that (or at least you shouldn't). You would say, "You're a dwarf, my son. Hold your head up high and be proud." Then you'd slap him on the ass and say, "Now go get me a beer, little man." At least that's how I feel about it.

OK, that does it... when the Cubs win the World Series we are all going to dnace around naked in just our Cubs hats and Bodie can't join in!!!!

Lou Mindar said...

Queebs -- I swear, you will look for any excuse to dance around naked with a bunch of guys.

I hope we haven't turned off Bodie from the blog-abusing him about not being a Cubs fan anymore.
