I figured we needed a new thread so we could do a little trash talking about our NCAA bracket picks. Even if you didn't get a chance to submit a bracket sheet on the Sportsline site, let everyone know how you are doing. But at least do us the honor of being truthful. Any BS claims will not be tolerated and will be dealt with harshly.
So let the trash talk begin...

Hey Boys,
I did put a bracket in the regular portion of sportsline since I couldn't get into the WIU Buds spot. How does the scoring work in your pool? I can compare it to mine. Are you also giving $10,000 to the winner? I helped my son do a bracket with his school's site and he went to pick against Duke and I told him "There is no way Duke is bad enough to lose in the first round" so he changed his pick. Guess I am a big help.
Well, it looks like my Winthrop-Belmont final is not to be...Just kidding.
I haven't figured out exactly where I stand, but I missed the Duke game too. In fact, I had them winning another game. Ken, are you suicidal? Just follow the women's team. They're looking good.
I also had Georgia Tech beating UNLV and then beating Wisconsin, so that's not going to work out so well either. Oh well.
Long Beach State put on a nice defensive show, They only gave up 121 points to Tennessee. Together, the teams had more than 200 points.
Anyway, the goal is to have the best sheet, not a perfect sheet, so I'm still going to end up kicking your butts. I hope you all enjoy the beating.
Just bow down to my superiority boys! So far I'm rocking the bracket. Missed some of those "sure" upsets that were prognosticated by the prognosticators.
Our pool adds the seed to the pts awarded for the round. Ist round is worth 1, then it goes 2,4,6,8,12...I think.
Looks like Texas is going to hang on. How bad were you sweatin', Lou?
Wait a minute. We were supposed to pick the winners? When did that rule change?
I'm afraid I dropped a couple more tonight. I picked Arkansas to beat USC and Villanova to beat Kentucky. Damn SEC. They just don't cooperate.
Texas had a much harder time with New Mexico State than they should have. Even so, Durant will lead them to the promised land (and me to my well deserved victory).
Bill, who are those two other guys in the pool with us?
I have decided that I should have listened to my son as he not only picked Duke to lose, but for some god foresaken reason he also picked Winthrop to beat Notre Dame. After the first round I am at 26 wins and 6 losses.
Can I get a moment of silence for Ken as he reflects on the Duke game? Don't start with Illinois as they didn't really even deserve to be in the tourney.
Lou how could you bet against your home-state Badgers? I have them going a long way on my brackets and I don't even like brats, cheese and heavy women.
The "other guys"...I figured I would invite a couple of other guys since we looked a little lean.
John Klimchuck is a fellow BBCHS teacher and my Asst. Golf coach. Joe Santa went to grad school with me at WIU. He's the AD at N. Huntington HS in Ind. He recently looked me up online. I hadn't talked to him since WIU.
Lou...You be getting your ass KICKED!
Hey...Wasn't might password for the Sportsline Bracket dead on? DUKESUCKS!!! Kenny...How much did you have to drink to get over that one?
Mr Breeden -- Let me just remind you that winning the first round doesn't mean a thing. The goal is to win the whole enchilada (or other Mexican food of your choice). My picks will prove that I am a prognosticating genius. You'll just have to wait until the end of the tourney for the proof. In the meantime, I'll be thinking up some excuses.
Hey Ken,
It says you need to re-invite us to the blog and that we have expired. Kind of sounds like Lou's basketball pool sheet.
Okay, it's official. I don't know the first thing about college basketball or the NCAA Tournament. The idea of filling out brackets and then trash talking on this blog was not a good one. I know that now. It is not a lesson I need to re-learn.
Finally, Wild Bill, Ken, and those two guys I don't know are all better than me. I bow down to their superiority. Bodie, I haven't seen your bracket, but I'm sure you beat me. Congratulations! You are the best. Queebs, to the best of my knowledge, you are not aware that there is a basketball tournament going on. That's okay. You are smarter than me for not following the tournament. I suck...
Hey Guys, I can't see your brackets (If I could I would probably get a good laugh from Lou's by the way it sounds) but after Sunday I have 12 of the sweet 16 teams left so I don't know how that stacks up against the rest of you.
I have 8 of the Sweet 16 correct, but my big downfall is that I picked Texas to win it all.
Let's face it, doing well picking winners in the NCAA tournament is just dumb luck. How else can you explain Wild Bill winning our pool?
Ok, Ok. . .while I am a Duke-I also have some ability to tell how good a team is. It's not as if people around here have been expecting another Duke championship. So, Its OK-as long as the tarholes lose. I hate to hear the celebration at home here-what with the yelling and horns honking and helicopters and what not. There was a bigger celebration when Duke lost in the ACC tournament than when carolina won. I don't think that I need to reinvite anyone, as long as you stay active-but I am new to this blogging thing-what about that Lou? Where has Queebs been?
I don't know where Queebs has been. He was in Las Vegas for some Gay Rights protest (I think), but I'm pretty sure he's back home. I don't know why he hasn't been on the blog. I guess it's the same old story, he just thinks he's too good for us.
I got great news today from Sportsline. There are only 31,928 people in the country keeping me from winning the $10,000 in the NCAA bracket pool. Like you Lou I also have suffered a similiar fate-I had Wisconsin going a long way. Watch, Keith is probably sitting in the weeds with 15 of the final 16.
Bode -- It wouldn't surprise me if Queebs is sitting in the weeds, but I doubt if he even knows there is a basketball tournament going on.
Just kidding, Queebs. I kid because I love (and because you are such an easy target).
I have the final 8 still in play. I'll probably be in pretty good shape if Florida gets knocked out soon...GO Butler! I'm getting in a sweet-sixteen deal at work. $5 and draw from the hat...winner take all. I'll probably end up drawing Florida. If that happens,I'll be conflicted. Ah, screw the bragging rights! I'll take the $80!
I'm dealing with a bit of a conundrum (Queebs, that means a problem). I'm burning out on B-ball coaching. I had my mind made up to turn in my resignation, as was the head coach, who I enjoy working with. I just found out that he may stick with it, and would probably give me back the Sophomore team coaching gig (I've been the Varsity Asst. the last 3 seasons after 3 seasons as the Soph coach).
Cons: We suck; it eats up a ton of time; we SUCK, hard; I don't see much of Sierra; and did I mention, we SUCK the big one!
Pros: For a couple of hours a day, I have the daughter(s) I never had; I love teaching in practice; I love coaching games; the $ ain't bad (it'll go a long way to making for a much better spring break trip next year).
Kinda sounds like I probably should stick with it. You guys have any thoughts? Well, not you Lou...It's apparent you know squadoosh about B-ball!
Although I don't know anything about basketball, I am an expert at coaching. Actually, not so much an expert as a guy with an opinion. Not really an opinion so much as a point of view. Technically, it's probably just a fleeting thought...
Anyway, I always thought it would be cool to coach a high school basketball team. In our area, they have a hard time finding coaches. So far, they haven't been hard up enough to consider me, but I'm just biding my time. That day will come, my pretty. That day will come.
As for your conundrum (Queebs, that means a problem), it sounds to me like you actually enjoy coaching and the money is not bad. Sure, its a headache sometimes, but what isn't. I think you should continue to coach and then I can live vicariously through you. And in the end, everything comes back to me. So do what is in my best interest. Coach!
Mild Bill,
I know the frustration you are feeling to a smaller extent. I have coached baseball pretty much every summer for the last bunch of years.
I don't receive any pay or have the huge time commitment that is needed for high school b-ball but I do find it rewarding. It is a nice break from the adult world a few times a week and it involves something I have always loved-baseball.
I really enjoy looking back at the end of the season seeing just how much I have been able to help the players develop and really learn to enjoy the game. I also don't have the pressure from parents and school that I assume you have to win and not necessarily have all the kids develop.
I have seen the other side also a coaches that are just out there and don't teach the game or develop sportsmanship. It is a no-win situation for all involved. I know it is hard to walk away from something you enjoy doing. I think if you really don't have have your heart in it 100% I think you will regret re-upping.
I also did it to spend time with my kids, which is the opposite for you since it is taking time away from your home life.
Good luck with your decision.
Bodie
P.S. At least with the four class system next year crappier teams have a chance to advance further in the tourney.
OK.. I'm back and I have a couple of questions... First of all, what does WFB having a condominium have to do with coaching basketball?? Secondly, what is this whole basketball tournament thing going on ??
Just kidding, in reality I have been so swamped lately I didn't even have a chance to get in any pools so I have been watching some of the games but havn't had much to contribute. I am still pulling for SIU to make it to the final 4!! Also, I know exactly what we all need to do next year for the kick-off the the tournament. We need to get or behinds on a plane and head to Vegas!! Talk about some intense dudes watching some basketball!!! I didn't get a chance to watch alot but the hotels have some pretty nice set-ups to watch the games. And as for the protesting all I can say is "Were here, were queer, get used to it!!!"
P.S. WFB, definately stay with the coaching gig, you have some pretty strong pros on your list.
If the head coach stays, and I get the Sophs, I'm going to stick with it. I've missed running practice and coaching games. If I'm doing that again, Sierra says I'll be much easier to live with during the season. The last three years, my main duties have been organizing fundraising and airing up b-balls. That gets old in a hurry!
Unfortunately with the 4 class system, we stay in 4A! Some of the old AA schools we played and could beat, we be dropping to 3A. The double whammy for us! We'll have a decent crew of athletes (not what you would expect from a 4A school, though), but not many basketball players. I think we'll just try to pressure and push the ball as much as possible (shoot it before you lose it). We'll get beat by 30-40-50 each night, but we'll just have to try to make it as much fun as possible.
I drew SIU in the winner-take-all Sweet-Sixteen deal we put together at school. I can be a Saluki fan for a potential $75 windfall!!! Do they chant "Go Dawgs" or anything like that? It seems difficult to use "Salukis" in a chant.
We are the Salukis
We're not as bad as the Dukies
As Jed Clampett used to say "Woo Dawggie"
I would love to see Kansas and Bill Self take a whippin'. Problem is if that happens then Kentucky will probably be hot after SIU's young coach when Tubby Smith bolts for Minnesota.
Well fellow prognosticators (you don't have to look that up Keith, it isn't anything dirty or have anything to do with Bill coaching) how are the brackets looking? I have 6 of the final 8 teams, but I had Wisconsin going to the finals so I am in trouble there.
Not to mix blog entries, but anything new on the pizza front? I think we are going to be out of town Sunday to Tuesday this weekend so I was wondering if we are still on for next weekend? Plus Ken will need to book his plane ticket soon to avoid heavy fees. We are up for anything either at Keith's, at our house or any pizza joint.
Hi Boys -- Sorry to say that our March 31 pizza date has to be postponed. Queebs and I are working on a new date. Sorry for the inconvenience. It looks like we'll have to reschedule for the end of April. I'll keep you posted.
Hey Bode,
I talked to Bob and he is free on the 31st so you want to head over to Luigi's for some pizza ?? We can still reschedule with Louis asap but April is looking pretty shakey for us. Easter is the first weekend, I am out of town from the 12th through the 20th, and we have something on the 21st. Lord knows it would not kill us to get together twice in the space of a month or two so we can get the thing with Louis set up as soon as we all have another free weekend. Maybe we could even get WFB to make the trip North!!
As long as we are on the topic, how does the 28th of April look for everyone???
Hey Keith,
The 31st works good for us so I think we could do a Luigi's deal. We went there on a Saturday awhile back and it was pretty crowded with birthday parties in the afternoon so maybe something early evening would work. Maybe like 5 or 6ish??? I am not sure about the date in April.
Paul
Sorry about not inviting you guys for the Jordan home made pizza last night for Kyle's 13th bday. Just as well you weren't here-bunch a crazy 13 year olds-WOW! They are crazy. I am back atop the bracket standings-this time for GOOD!!
Hey Roundball Gurus,
I assume your brackets were scored the same way as mine were on Sportsline-where do you all stand since I can't see them? I show an overall score of 90 according to the Sportsline scoring. I have two of the final four left and I have Ohio State winning the tourney.
Hey Ken I can sympathize with you on the 13-year olds for craziness. We are having a house full of 10-year-old girls for Jenna's birthday sleepover.
Bode -- I think our brackets are scored differently. I'm in last place with a score of 174. I don't have any of the Final Four left. Ken took over the lead for good last night. Wild Bill had UNC winning the whole thing and Ken picked Florida.
I had UNC beating Kansas in the Final...so I'm a ghost! I gave it a good run for a while. Now it's time to get ready for the Master's pool. FORE!!!
